Have you seen the Zero Two Dance challenge that’s currently trending? In an era where 1P media is mainstream, it’s not new to hear that ‘creators’ are becoming popular career aspirations among elementary school students. YouTube, TikTok, and other platforms have become media that can be easily accessed by people of all ages.

In 1P media, you can often find ‘cover songs’ and ‘cover dance’ content where people imitate the songs of singers or the choreography of idols. There are also diverse types of people, such as creators who specialize in producing cover songs, and ordinary people who imitate the choreography of famous idols for their interest or fandom. Here, ‘cover’ refers to the act of another person imitating something that has already been published, such as a song or choreography. We often know that a company’s act of making a product without obtaining permission from another company can violate the law. But does imitating a song or choreography violate copyright law?
